Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) is an important crop of the traditional agriculture system in the Northeast of Brazil. It can be infected by more than 20 virus species and Cowpea severe mosaic virus (CPSMV) is one of the most important pathogens that naturally infect cowpea in Brazil. Background: Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a crop that is high in carbohydrates in the roots and in protein in the leaves, important for both human consumption and animal feed, and also has a significant industrial use for its starches. In this study we evaluated the genetic variability with molecular markers in different stages in micropropagated plants from somatic embryos of Venezuelan native clone 56. Results: Three markers were used: ISTR, AFLP and SSR, finding that ISTR showed the highest polymorphism among individuals tested. Evaluation of clonal micropropagation and phenotype stability of elite somaclones are critical steps for development of new varieties. In the present work somaclon variant CIEN BTA-03 (resistant to Black Sigatoka), obtained through in vitro process from cultivar Williams (susceptible to Black Sigatoka), was micropropagated via apical shoot culture for five multiplication cycles in 0.5 mg/l of benzyl-aminopurine (BA). An efficient clonal propagation procedure for six rice varieties cultivated in Argentina was developed by using shoot tip cultures, and the genetic stability of the micropropagated plants was verified by isozyme analysis. One week old seedlings obtained on MS medium were sectioned and subcultured on MS medium (0.75% agar) supplemented with different combination and concentrations of cytokinins (BAP and KIN) and auxins (2,4-D and NAA). After four weeks of culture, multiple shoots were obtained. The best response was observed on MS supplemented with BAP 5 mg l-1. Pinus patula Schiede ex Schltdl. et. Cham., es una especie nativa de México ampliamente utilizada en plantaciones comerciales en diferentes regiones del mundo; la especie ha sido mejorada en el extranjero, y es necesario evaluar el material al ser reintroducido a su país de origen. Con el fin de determinar la estructura genética de las características de crecimiento y densidad de la madera (evaluada de manera directa y a través de la penetración del Pilodyn) y estimar la respuesta esperada a la selección masal en una población de Eucalyptus grandis formada por familias del NE de Queensland (Australia), se evaluó un ensayo de progenies a los 4.5 y 8.5 años de edad, establecido en tres sitios del NE argentino. Rescue of a non-viable accession and rapd analysis of recovered plants of Arachis retusa PAB

In vitro regeneration of Arachis retusa was examined for the purpose of germplasm renewal and conservation. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting was used to evaluate the genetic stability of plants derived from embryo axes and apical segments. Ten arbitrary decamer primers were screened and five of them were selected. Ninety genomic regions were evaluated, with an average of 18 loci per clone. All amplified segments were monomorphic. The results indicate that recovered plants are genetically stable at the assessed genomic regions and that both regeneration processes are suitable for in vitro germplasm preservation of Arachis species.

Development of new CMS lines by backcrossing was conducted at Suphan Buri Rice Research Center during 2005-2011. The objective was to develop Thai elite breeding lines to be better varieties of CMS lines adapted to the environment in Thailand. The new CMS lines will be used for research project on hybrid rice production. CMS lines from IRRI were used as donor in repeated backcrossing of 6-7 generations to the recurrent parent, Thai elite breeding line. After seven generations of repeated backcrossing two new CMS lines, SPR06186A (IR58025A/7*SPR98015-59-1-2-2-2) and SPR06189A (IR73328A/7*SPR98015-59-1-2-2-2), were developed. CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 is a non-glutinous, non-photoperiod sensitive and aromatic rice line derived from a cross between PSBRc54 and IR22. The single cross hybridization was made in 2006 at Bang Khen Rice Experiment Station (now Chachoengsao Rice Research. F2 to F5 progenies were selected at Klong Luang Rice Reseach Center during 2007-2008. The line CCS06039-KLG-8-3-5-1 has an erect and moderately strong culm; 110 cm height on transplanting and 105 cm height on germinated seed broadcasting; 117 days maturity on transplanting and 106 days maturity on germinated seed broadcasting.
